The overwhelming dominance of the Lancia Fulvia in the world of rallying was one of the wane by the early Seventies.
The front engine - rear wheel drive combination was getting dated.
This was a chance which Bertone could not let slip. For him the solution
was the prototype LANCIA STRATOS HF , a completely original sports car concept,
naturallywith a mid-mounted engine.
And yet again the facts were to prove him right.
The LANCIA STRATOS went into production and for the next ten year
it was the car to beat in rally competition.
